I'm An Idiot.
Driving to work this morning, I had a couple of realizations. Mind you, this was right after hearing a radio commercial for the umpteenth millionth time about a local men’s clinic advertising treatment for low testosterone. I’ve written about my frustrations with appropriate testosterone testing in the past, and the whole “Low T” industry in general from a functional medicine perspective.
Realization #1
Guys don’t care about WHY their testosterone is low or even if it’s accurate. They don’t even care if it’s not low. It could be in a great range, but if they can have it higher, they will supposedly have more energy, sex drive, and all the things that are sold as benefits of having better testosterone levels. Get the free test and inject away. More is better, right?
Realization #2
I’m an idiot for even thinking men would care.
What do men hear? The radio and TV commercial messaging is “get tested, get treated.” The influencer/podcast host messaging is “do all things like eat protein, lift heavy, sauna, cold plunge, have great relationships, take vitamins, build muscle…and also do T therapy.”
Doesn’t matter their health and life ambitions, the message is loud and clear, testosterone is allegedly going to make it better.
